Recent Asphalt Projects
Over many years Nelson Asphalting has been engaged by various organisation to deliver high quality asphalt solutions.
Below are some of our recent projects.
Narre Warren Train
Station Upgrade
Nelson Asphalting was engaged by McConnell Dowell to complete all asphalt works at the Narre Warren train station upgrade in 2023/ 2024.
This included the level crossing removal at Webb Street which helped increase the capacity to run more trains on the network, without boom gates delaying vehicles and other users.
This also improvied safety by removing the danger of trains sharing a crossing with vehicles and other users.
Throughout the project, Nelson Asphalting laid approximately 3,500 tonnes of asphalt.

Yan Yean Road Upgrade
Nelson Asphalting was contracted to deliver asphalt works for the Yan Yean Road upgrade, where we implemented an advanced technique known as echelon paving.
Echelon paving involves two paving machines operating in a staggered formation on adjacent lanes. This method changes the traditional construction of the longitudinal joint by delaying compaction of the unconfined edge on the first pass until the second pass is laid. Once the trailing paver places asphalt against the edge of the leading paver’s asphalt, the hot seam and second pass are compacted simultaneously, resulting in a nearly seamless joint.
For this project, Nelson Asphalting laid approximately 10,000 tonnes of asphalt.
The Yan Yean Road upgrade has significantly improved travel in Melbourne’s north, making journeys quicker, easier, and safer.

HMAS Cerberus
Roadworks Refurbishment
HMAS Cerberus serves as the Navy’s primary training facility and is a critical asset for the Australian Defence Force.
To ensure the base remains fit-for-purpose, a major infrastructure upgrade was undertaken—focused on the construction of new roads, car parks, and hardstands (paved areas designed to support heavy vehicles, equipment, and machinery). These improvements are key to unlocking the potential for the base’s ongoing redevelopment.
Nelson Asphalting played a vital role in the refurbishment, resurfacing existing roads, car parks, hardstands, and pavements. Our scope of works also included asphalt profiling, trenching, linemarking, drainage, and earthworks.
In total, Nelson Asphalting laid approximately 4,500 tonnes of asphalt throughout the project.
